Wild Flowers and Wild Hearts - Amy & Sam

We saw The Oaks on Google when searching for barn wedding venues.  We wanted to do everything in one place, including getting ready so it ticked a lot of our boxes and a big must for us was the option to get married outside.

When we first visited the barn, we knew it was our wedding venue. Everything looked perfect to us. It felt secluded and peaceful when we arrived and when we entered the barn itself, it was rustic and authentic and didn’t feel like it was trying to be anything else (which we loved). On our first visit, we could really see how our small, laid-back wedding would fit and how we could style it to suit us. As soon as we left, my now husband said he loved the venue, so I knew it was the one.

Once we booked our date, we visited every fayre we could. We were able to get some great inspiration on how to style the venue and were able to sample some of the amazing food from the caterers.

We wanted our décor to complement the venue but also to suit our style, be personal and to be re-used after the wedding.

Following a lot of research, we decided on a more vintage style with a bit of fairytale romance that incorporated ambers, gold and wildflowers.  After falling in love with my dress, with hand painted purple and green flowers, I knew they had to be the main colour scheme. This came together perfectly with hints of amber and pink, in the wedding bouquets, table flora and decoration installations which we were having all around the venue. A big must of mine was to have as many fresh flowers as I could!

The florist did an amazing job at choosing the colours and styles of wildflowers that complemented the whole occasion, considering that she had not seen my dress or the personalised décor that my mum and I had created.

My dress was the main inspiration and brought the original theme in of wildflowers which were featured everywhere! Wildflower drawings were placed on cake napkins, favours and confetti bags . We created our own table numbers using wine bottles and even made our own personalised cigar labels!  We used different sizes of amber jars, vases and anything else we could find to use for candles and flowers for the tables and to be dotted around the venue.

We chose to have the seasonal arch, after seeing it at multiple fayres I loved how it made the entrance stand out and it was beautifully done.  We also had the lanterns and candles and made our own drinks package with the team.  A highlight was using the Bridal Boutique room, it was the perfect space to spend the morning with my bridal party.

Standing at the end of the aisle with my soon to be husband saying our vows was the most memorable part of the day. The whole day was honestly the best day of my life. Getting ready with my bridal party in the Bridal Boutique felt like we were at our own party, also being in the room meant we could sneak peaks at everyone setting up and our guests arriving.  Getting married under the pergola surrounded by flowers was a dream, the florist made the most beautiful broken arch, and being able to spend the day outside playing lawn games with our closest friends and family made the day feel so relaxed and fun which is all we wanted for our day.

We chose to have our own playlist for during the ceremony and throughout the day, as we wanted to listen to our favourite songs.  We then had a live band in the evening, which I would definitely recommend! It felt like we were at our very own gig and everyone was up and dancing, having the best time. We didn’t have a first dance but did have a first song, which was our favourite song, and having a live band play this for us made it so much more special.
